Framing is the technique of drawing attention to the subject of your image by blocking other parts of the image with something in the scene.

Your frame doesn’t need to go completely around the edges of your image – they might just be on one or two edges of your shot.
This is what frame is all about:
- adding a foreground object into your scene that frames, or helps highlight your subject
- sometimes involve stepping back from your original composition and looking for elements to use as a frame
- usually using a shallow depth of field to put the foreground, framing element out of focus
- the frame is there to set the scene, and draw the viewer into the image
I have used framing in the pictures below by taking a picture through the bench which frames the people that are sitting on the opposite bench.
